Primarily my art work is about expressing myself through the medium of paint. To me painting is magical, you start with nothing and you create something that celebrates your existence in time and space.
I have found colour and the harnessing of its qualities to become a huge part of my practice. My work at present revolves around creating a strong visual language that flows and that utilizes the qualities of colour detail and form.
I am currently drawn to bright neon colours, corals, pinks and lime greens. I’m also interested contrasting these colours with neutrals such as those used in a lot of the shabby chick and French furniture restorations. These include pistachios, duck eggs, Parisian grey's, khaki greens and the many beautiful grey's used for houses and in home furnishings. I like the idea of combining these calming vintage neutrals with bright neon’s.
A lot of my paintings draw inspiration from nature in some way. I like to start with some kind or idea or source material and then see where the mood takes me. I tend to work quite fast and instinctively which I think lends itself to a more lively and organic painting.
